Rev up the GRRRL in you ! !
By Marcia Jedd
Ladies, when it comes to pursuing a guy, we aren't wired to be assertive, let alone aggressive. But since there is no Dudley Do-Right hero to whisk us off the railroad tracks these days, we have to be strong and independent on our own.
Add a dash of boldness to your style, something out of character for you, to command the attention you deserve. Follow these tips to show that you are an adventurous "adventuress."
Punch it up
Go an a style ambush. Pick one thing you normally wouldn't sport and try it for the night. Dare to wear that over-the-top sweater you bought on a whim, go for the sexy boots or a funky hairdo to convey you are ready for anything.
Marissa, 38, says she loves to wear a particular faux fur-collar sweater. When she combined it with a playful fur-trimmed purse, the ensemble was like a magnet to the guys all night. "Not only was I getting comments from the guys, but women kept asking me where I got my purse."
Sending signals
If you are normally demure and wait for the guy to ask for your number, make the first move to be contacted. For example, if you are interested in him and having the obligatory "what do you do?" conversation, take out your business card right away if there's a connection, however remote. "I may have a contact for you" always works, or "I'm in marketing too, here's my card."
Monica, 40, easily fell into a business conversation with David, 40, at a publisher's party. She was the first to flash her business card. That easy exchange of "let's do lunch" finds the couple happily dating six months later.
Word's worth
What's more romantic than sweet notes and references to inside jokes? Nicole, 28, planned out a treasure hunt inside her apartment, knowing her boyfriend was stopping by after work around Valentine's Day.
She devised a series of fun clues, taping the first clue to a beer set out in plain view. Each subsequent clue was taped to a small prize, such as a lottery ticket. One of the last clues, afixed to a can of whipped cream, led him into the bedroom where Nicole was the final prize, so to speak. "I had as much fun planning it as I did participating."
